This is a digital painting of a black swallowtail butterfly feeding at a lily. The source is a photograph taken by my wife, which can be seen here.
I drew the flower and butterfly freehand, using the photo as a reference. Then I painted over the sketch using GIMP. I primarily used the paintbrush, airbrush, smudge, and eraser tools. The full size file is very large (3200x2400), so you will need to download it in order to see the full sized image. Any and all critiques, tips, suggestions, or comments are welcome. |

We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. To help support the Literature community we hold regular contests. It is an opportunity for you to get involved and gain some exposure. Contest winners will be featured in a news article and a journal entry--as well as other fabulous prizes.
