My layout and work in progress for Devious Deadlines exercise #2.
My concept is Zeus among the clouds, hurling the Thunderbolt into storm-swept mountains.
Sunday, 1/23: Concept, layout, first applications of color.
1/23, update 2: Blocked in clouds, color corrections and additional details on the mountains.
1/25 - Began work on Zeus. Almost on a whim, I decided to make him blue. Just to emphasize his otherness, and to give a nice contrast against the orange/red sky. I also tried my first go at a lightning effect. The jury is still out.
1/26 - things are starting to come together now. Tonight was fairly busy. Shading/highlights/shaping of Zeus. Added his thunderbolt. Added colored highlights on top of the extreme highlights for the nearness of the lightning.
I also used GIMP to clean up the layers beneath him, so he didn't look so ghostly. Now the canvas informs his coloring but the sky/clouds don't.

I like it so far. You said you're no good, but look at this. 
I do have one comment. The line between his man-boobies seems too high. I think you might benefit from a little blending near his collarbones.
