I have started working on this meme. In the process, I have begun to play with the character design a bit.
I hope to make the face a bit more realistic and expressive.
I have also noticed that a lot of comickers whose work I enjoy use fixed-width tools and "build" thicker lines/segments, so I have been trying that, too.

A most useful exercise! As mentioned, the character has improved since you first introduced it.
The first three expressions look clear. The "anger" feels more like a "d'oh" to me, if you angled the eyebrows downwards this will probably look more clear (your problem lies with those eyeglasses making the lines complex, maybe bend his head forwards for anger, allowing a clearer line of sight to the important eyebrows?).
The "confused" one is okay, but maybe try to avoid question marks for training. Again, I think you can exaggerate the eyebrows even more here.
A wonderful book worth reading is Faigin's An artist's guide to facial expressions.
